The Story

SP-MSM-300 is a complete turn-key arc-melting system with a water-cooled high vacuum chamber, melting cavities, vacuum casting, and electromagnetic stirring for up to 1000 g steel. It allows researchers to explore the next generation of alloy. 
Features：

  • Water-cooled stainless steel vacuum chamber with a vacuum of 10^-6 torr
  • 630 A arc melting power supp with arc ignition without contact of sample
  • Water-cooled copper hearth with multiple cavities for multiple samples and gettering. 
  • The adjustable arc electrode to melt of multiple samples easily and uniformly. 
  • A wobble stick is built-in for sample flipping without breaking vacuum
  • Interchangeable copper hearths with electromagnetic stirring or vacuum casting.

Melting Chamber
  • Water-cooled stainless steel high vacuum chamber.
  • Ultimate vacuum: 7e-7 torr.
  • Practical vacuum 5e-6 torr
  • Leak rate <3.75 x 10^-4 (torr·l)/s
  • Chamber size: 280×350×440 mm
  • Tinted observation windows
  • Hinged front door
  • A wobble stick is built-in for sample flipping without breaking the vacuum

Water-cooled Copper Hearth

 

 Three types of water-cooled copper hearths available ( pls choose one when order
  1. Single copper hearth for melting 300 g steel with electromagnetic stirring. 
    Cavity 1: Ø80×25 mm with electromagnetic stirring
    Cavity 2: Ø35×17.5 mm 
    Cavity 3: Ø35×17.5 mm 
    Cavity 4: Ø35×17.5 mm 
  2. Copper hearth for vacuum casting
  • Cavity 1: Ø40×20 mm 
  • Cavity 2: Ø40×20 mm
  • Cavity 3: Ø60×20 mm with electromagnetic stirring.
  • Cavity 4: Ø50×10 mm for vacuum casting, up to Ø8×75 mm casting rod. 

3.    170 mm dia x 20 mm depth, 277 ml capacity

  1. Tilt casting is available upon request
  2. Customized crucible and mold designs are available upon request.

  • Inficon PCG554 Pirani Capacitance Diaphragm Gauge

Vacuum System

(Optional)
  • 700 L/s Pfeiffer Vacuum turbopump station with a ISO160K manual gate valve
  • 240 L/min rotary vane backing pump with an oil mist trap and an intake filter. 
  • Cold cathod / Pirani full range pressure gauge 3.75×10^-9 - 1000 torr
  • A vacuum foreline connection is included in the optional package. 
Water Chiller (Optional)
  • KJ 5300 recirculating water chiller with 16L/min water flow and 6K BTU/hr cooling capacity
  • Digital Temperature Control: 5 - 30ºC adjustable with ± 0.3 °C accuracy
  • Refrigerant: R410-a
Working Gas (Optional)
 
  • High-purity inert gas with at least 5N purity (>99.999%) is required (not included)
  • 5% Hydrogen + 95% Argon gas may be used to prevent oxidation during the melting process
  • High-purity Ti sample melting may help absorb oxygen a lot
  • A two-stage pressure regulator must be installed on the gas cylinder to limit the pressure to below 3 psi for safe operation. Click here to learn to installation of a gas regulator
